Acorn Class 11th- 15th July 2022

Literacy

We have been reading the story of Stanley’s Stick by John Hegley. The story is about a boy called Stanley who uses his imagination to turn his special stick into lots of different things. We went on a stick search and found some interesting sticks. We then had a idea session asking about what the sticks could turn into and then we made freeze frames of us acting out our idea with a stick. Can you guess what our stick is? We then printed our pictures out and wrote captions of what we are doing!

Topic

This week, we have been learning about how to look after our environment. We thought about different ways we could do this and gave ourselves a few challenges. We decided to write and draw on both sides of the paper, turn the tap off when we brush our teeth and think about what we could recycle before putting it in the bin. We read the story ‘Clean Up’ by Nathan Bryon. It’s a story about a girl who visits her grandparents in Jamaica and discovers how all the rubbish left is damaging the beach and the sea life. This inspired us to think about how we could tidy up our very own environment. So we put on some gloves, armed ourselves with rubbish bags and went litter picking around the school. We were shocked by how much we found and were so enthusiastic to make sure we left our school clean and tidy. What a good job Acorns!!

Our Trip to the seaside

On Friday, we went on a class trip to the seaside with our friends in Ash and Oak class. What a day we had! We travelled by bus to Walton on the Naze. The sun shone as we paddled in the sea, searched for sea shells, built sand castles and played beach games. We had a picnic on the beach and then enjoyed a ice lolly before heading home. Thank you Acorns for such a super day!
