Acorn Class 7th-11th November 2022

Literacy

On Tuesday, we discovered some floury footprints and a letter from the Gingerbread Man. He had left us some clues to follow to find him. We used our rhyming skills from last week to help us solve the clues. We finally found him in the wendy house and some story telling props too. We read the story and enjoyed role playing the story using puppets and masks. Later on in the week we talked about the speech bubbles in the story book. We learnt about what a speech bubble is and when to use them. We thought about what the characters in the story would say and used our phonic segmenting skills to write speech bubbles for the characters.

EAD- DT

We have been learning about different joins and this week we learnt how to use tape to join materials together. We demonstrated how to use a tape dispenser and scissors to cut the tape and talked about length. Mrs Marsden challenged the Acorns to design and make a trap for the Gingerbread Man. We used masking tape and cellotape and lots of junk modelling to create our traps!

St Martins- Germany Enrichment

We had some visitors from Germany this week at All Saints who taught us all about the St Martin festival in Germany. We talked about traditions and what they do on this special day. We made our own special lanterns using plastic bottles, tissue paper and PVA glue. They taught us how to sing the Lantern song and we learnt how to say some words in German.

Remembrance

On Friday, we learnt about the importance of Remembrance day and why we wear poppies on this day. We talked about the soldiers that fought in the war and why we remember them on this special day. We took part in a 2 minute silence on the playground with the rest of the school and then used our creativity to make our own poppy pictures. We painted poppies and used loose parts to create poppy pictures. We also decorated our own poppy biscuits which we enjoyed for snack later on in the day.
