In Maths, we have been learning how to find number bonds to 5. We have been using the part-part-whole model to help us with our number bonds. We started the week playing a game where we took turns to throw 5 toys into a hoop. We recorded how many landed inside the hoop and how many outside the hoop. Each time we checked to see how many we had altogether and looked at the different combinations of numbers made 5 each time. This game was popular all week and continued in busy time- it got rather competitive as all the Acorns wanted to beat Mrs M’s score!
Topic- Our winter walk
We have been learning about winter this week and we decided to go on a walk around the school grounds looking for signs of winter. We wrapped up warm and set off around the school with our checklists. We found ice, a robin, pinecones, lots of bare trees and some frost. We were amazed to find only half the field was frosty and discussed why the other half wasn’t.
We combined our art activity with a bit of fine motor practise too this week by making some snowflake collages. We carefully glues along the lines of the snowflake outline and then stuck little pieces of wintery coloured paper along the lines. It was a bit fiddly but we all really enjoyed it and was so pleased with our snowflakes at the end. We can’t wait to hang them up on our winter display!
