We have been learning the story ‘We’re Going on a Lion Hunt’ by David Axtell. We have learnt to tell it using actions. This week, we have been creating our own story maps of the story. Later on in the week, we used our story maps to innovate the story and create our own versions with new characters and settings.
We read the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’ by Eileene Brown and was inspired by Handa’s basket she uses to carry her fruit. We talked about how baskets are created and looked closer at the weave. We decided to make our own baskets by weaving fabrics onto a basket shaped template. We used our stickability and creativity motivations to thread the fabric in and out of the slats.
Brazil Enrichment Day
On Friday, we took part in a whole school enrichment day all about the country of Brazil. We found Brazil on our class map and learnt about the language, flag and the Amazon rainforest. We learnt about Brazilian carnivals and made some rather impressive carnival head dresses. We played a spot of Brazilian football and learnt some samba dancing. Finally, we tasted some yummy Brazilian fruits and foods. What a day!!
