Next week's learning...

English: Diary entries and Big Writing.
Maths: Adding and subtracting tens, adding and subtracting ones.
Science: Food chains.
Phonics: Phase 5 recap.

This week we celebrated our Harvest assembly as well as Generosity Week. The children have been completing different activities throughout the week, thinking about what they could do to be generous and those things we are thankful for. On Thursday, the children had a non-uniform day which we raised money for and we finished the week with a special assembly in the church for Harvest.

We had a successful week in English! We started looking at a poem called “The Moon” written by Robert Louis Stevenson. The children explored the features of poetry and the types of structures this poem in particular had. They later moved onto performance poetry, working in groups and identifying which words they could use from their part of the poem as actions. Take a look at them in action!

This week we explored dependency and the ways in which we all need different things in order to survive. We used the teaching points of oak trees and squirrels before introducing foxes, too. Once we had understood our learning, we completed our own dependency task linking the world habitats we’d previously been learning about, including arctic, desert and rainforest.
