Seed to Tree

On Tuesday, we completed Step 2 in Year 2 of the Seed to Tree programme. This involved us learning more about William’s tree and the connection between Lawshall and Papua New Guinea as well as caring for the growth of the acorns we planted when we were in Year 1.

The morning started off with Elizabeth explaining the reason for growing trees and working with Lawshall’s Golden Wood before we went outside to visit William’s tree. We worked out the tree is 32 years old!

We then moved over to the tree nursery where we saw just how much has changed since we planted the trees! There were a lot of weeds and Elizabeth explained the jobs we would need to do to get in back into tip-top condition. Luckily, we had Alice and Chantal to help.

Now it’s time to get to work! We had to pull out all of the weeds and used a trowel and a spade to help us. Following this, we added grass trimmings to help hold moisture but further support the tree’s growth. It was tough but we did a great job!

Now to look at our brilliant, hard work! Just check out the before and after photos. We finished by reading William’s blessing to help keep our trees big and strong. We look forward to checking on their progress.
