Next week's learning...

Science: Animals including Humans – Life Cycles.
Phonics: Phase 5 recap – split digraphs.

English

This week we started looking at the text “John Patrick Norman McHennessey, the boy who was always late” by John Burningham. The story details a boy who is continuously late to school because of very dramatic reasons. As part of our first lesson, we created some of these excuses as well as creating some of our own. We used role play to represent this.

Geography

This half term, our topic subject is Geography. In our first lesson, we looked specifically at the 7 continents and the 5 oceans. Of course, when Mr N teaches this, there is always a song in the lesson! We used this to help us identify the continents and oceans in size, as well as specific information about them. We also used atlases to help us explore the sizes, shapes and location of the continents.

Forest Schools

Our first Forest School session was a success! We met Holly and went through our names and “forest animals”. We reminded ourselves of the rules and what was expected of us as well as the activities on offer. These were:
– Planting young sucklings.
– Pond dipping.
– Bug hunting.
– Tree climbing.
– Hammock/Swing.
– Den Building
– Leaf printing.
– Making soap using Horse Chestnut leaves.

PE

In our first gymnastics session of the term, Tom went through the different skills needed in gymnastics. Our first session focused on rolling and balancing.

Maths

This week we have been revising and extending our learning of adding and subtracting two 2-digit numbers. The children have become really confident and engaged with the methods and have been using them accurately in their Magic 10 and general maths practice.

RE

We started our theme of Christianity this week and looked at an image of the Angel Gabriel and Mary. Together, we thought about what the contents of the envelope may be and what important message she must be told. We then had a go at role playing this action by ourselves.
