DT Day
Well done to the whole of Ash for their cooperative learning, creativity and independence as we worked through our pizza making today. Our day started by reminding ourselves of the Eat Well Plate and the reason the carbohydrates and vegetables are the largest group. We thought carefully about the reasons the dairy, fats and protein groups were smaller but also the importance of eating them in moderation. We looked in detail at the foods which come from plants and those that come from animals before grouping them.
Then we had the fun part… tasting! I am so impressed with the openness to trying new foods or foods they hadn’t realised they’d eaten before. Great attitudes!
The afternoon was our pizza making! We used a base that was friendly to all of our requirements and used our plans from the morning to create our perfect slice! The children used their skills and awareness from the morning to create their pizzas. Following this, we used some gluten free pizza dough and worked cooperatively together to create a pizza as a table. I was very impressed with the way they shared out the roles and worked together as a team. Great job!
Geography
In geography this week we discussed and investigated climate zones around the world. We reminded ourselves of the equator line and what that means and discussed what the climate is like the further away it gets. We understood there are four main zones: cold, temperate, warm and tropical. We researched each zone before using coloured paper to show the difference between the zones and where they sit in the world. The children were able to match animals to their climate zones as well as thinking about the different adaptations that they have.
