Next week's learning...

English: Sentence types, writing from different perspectives.
Maths: Adding and subtracting two 2-digit numbers.
Science: Basic Needs.
Phonics: i, o, u alternates.

St. Martin's Day

On Thursday, we learned about St. Martin, a Roman knight who showed kindness by cutting his cloak in two so that a beggar could keep warm. He is remembered for his kindness but it is also the beginning of Christmas celebrations in Germany. We learned about the country of Germany as well as the different ways they celebrate St. Martin. We completed a task with Jenny O’Reilly Turner as well as a German teacher and student who helped us.

Maths

As well as adding and subtracting amounts of 10s, 10 more and 10 less, we also consolidated our learning on adding and subtracting a one digit number from a 2-digit number. We had a range of manipulatives who helped us solve our answers as well as refreshing our number bond knowledge.

English

This week we explored role playing from the perspective of three characters in the story John Patrick Norman McHennessey. We thought about the roles and the way in which they would say things and used our knowledge on sentence types to apply these. The children were very good at getting into character but also considering the way the different characters would have felt given the events that happened. They practised and performed to the class.
