Elder Class 8th to 12th March 2021
Elder class have settled straight back in to school life. In geography they took on the role of someone within the banana food chain and justified to the other members of their group how much of the income from each piece of fruit they deserved. There was lots of haggling going on but all of the groups showed cooperation to reach a decision on how to share out the money.
Elders had a great time in PE with Tom doing tag rugby. There was dodging and weaving and lots of smiles!
In science we were looking at the effect of exercise on our circulatory system. We measured our resting heart rate and then our heart rate after exercise. Our heart rates rose during exercise. We discovered that our blood carries oxygen and sugar to our muscles which enables them to exercise and it also carries away carbon dioxide generated in our muscles during exercise. When we exercise, our heart beats faster so our blood completes this process quicker. Our heart is a muscle that can be trained to work more efficiently, which is why athletes have a lower resting heart rate than other people.
IN DT, Elder class made sauces to accompany burgers – tzatziki, salsa and barbecue. Then they taste-tested each of the sauces to find the one they liked best. The general consensus was the BBQ sauce had too much mustard so maybe next time they would adjust the recipe slightly.
