Horse Chestnut 16th-20th May 2022

Next week’s learning:

Maths – Time
English – Instructional texts

Maths:

In Maths, we have been exploring time. Using clocks, we played about with making different times. We then moved onto looking at these times to the minute, using key vocabulary such as past and to. This less us to exploring both digital and analogue time on a 12 hour and 24 hour clock.

English:

In English, we began looking at features of an explanation text and what this meant. We studied examples, looking at the commonalities between them. We then decide a topic we were going to explain the process of. We looked at mummification, building pyramids, farming and Egyptian clothing. We then used iPads, books and fact sheets to find our research.

History:

In History, we explored how and why the Ancient Egyptians built the pyramids. We made a step pyramid, bent pyramids and a Sphinx pyramid with clay. We also learnt lots of facts such as the pyramid of Giza is 139m tall!

Science:

In Science, we explored how the distance of travelling sound can make a sound louder or quieter. After some learning, we began an investigation! We made string telephones and tested it. We found the further we stood apart, and the tighter the string, the volume was better.
