Horse Chestnut 21st-25th March 2022

Next week’s learning:

English – We are looking at non-chronological reports.

Maths – We are moving onto decimals.

Science – We are continuing our exploration of electricity.

In Maths, we have been looking at finding fractions of a quantity as well as subtracting fractions from whole amounts. This required us to convert the whole into a fraction in order to be able to subtract from it. We looked at number lines to support our learning by finding the difference too.

In English, we have been continuing looking at writing with suspense. We considered powerful verbs and how they can add more depth to our sentences. We also looked at short sentences and how they can really make the reader feel full of suspense. We then did a recap lesson of direct speech, making sure we use the rules so it is correctly punctuated.

In Science, we continued exploring circuits and electricity. We looked at insulators (items which didn’t cause the bulb to light up) and conductors (which did make the bulb light up). We tested lots of materials, such as felt, coins, wool, wood and plastic. We also reenacted the circuits ourselves!

This week, some children in the school were lucky enough to spend the morning with a professional skateboarder, learning lots of tricks and how to be save on a skateboard.
