Horse Chestnut 21st-25th October

After half term’s learning:

Maths – Multiplication and Division
English – Instruction writing
Science – States of Matter

Maths:

This week, we have been looking at area. We began by counting squares to help us calculate the area. We then looked at making different shapes and calculating the area. Finally, we looked at comparing areas.

English:

This week, we looked at the features of a diary. We then planned a diary entry about the events in our story, as if we were one of the main characters. We ended the week by writing them.

Science:

This week’s lesson covered changing states. We looked at how water can be all three states, like other materials. Some materials, such as chocolate have reversible changes and can switch between solid and liquid. Our key vocabulary:

Melting

Freezing

Evaporation

Condensation

Boiling

To further our understanding, we looked at an ice cube and how it melted in our hands. We then poured some water into a kettle and boiled it. Watching it turn into water vapour.
