Horse Chestnut 26th-30th September 2022

Next week’s learning:

Maths – We are moving onto addition and subtraction.
English – We are looking at diary entries.
Big Question – If you could ask God one question, what would it be?

Maths:

In maths, we began by looking at Roman numerals. We discussed where we might see them in real life and then placed them on a clock face. We also practiced making numerals with lollipop sticks. We then moved to rounding to the nearest 10 100 and 1000.

English:

In English, we have been exploring setting descriptions. We looked at writing these in postcard style as if we’d been on holiday to Pompeii from our book. We wrote a draft before we then edited this, we looked at punctuation and spelling errors in our work. This then led us onto writing our postcards up in neat.

History:

In History, we looked at how the Romans invaded Britain. We began by exploring the first two attempts in 55 and 54BC by Julius Caesar. Then we looked at how Claudius was successful in AD43 when he had a stronger army with lots of weapons. We discussed how some British tribes accepted this and decided to pay taxes and live under Roman rules and how others decided to fight back. This led us on to a class debate as if we were warriors in a British tribe.
