Next week’s learning:
English – writing a short narrative
Maths – Area
Maths:
This week in Maths we explored using strategies to check our addition and subtractions. We used the following vocabulary to support us:
Commutativity- Can add numbers in the sum in any order and you’ll get the same answer.
Inverse- using the opposite operation. E.g. the inverse for addition is subtraction and vide versa.
We also practiced our 4x table. We had the body of a spider and multiples of 4 surrounding it. Once we rolled the dice, whatever number it landed on we had to multiply by 4. If it was in one of bubbles, we’d draw legs to match it!
English:
We explored powerful verbs this week. We used them to describe Mount Vesuvius erupting in Pompeii. We also wrote descriptions of watching the volcano erupt from the safety our boat. We also explored synonyms, using thesaurus to extend our vocabulary. We focused on the word ‘shake’ finding words such as: convulse, shudder, quiver, quake. This helped us write short poems about an earthquake.
Science:
This week, we explored how solids, liquids and gases can act differently to ‘regular’ examples. We thought about the particles in each state of matter. For example, solids have close nit particles that barely move. We then looked at how the thickness of liquids can affect how they flow. For example, water being thinner, flows quicker than honey which is thicker. We then looked at pouring solids. These were solids that can pour like a liquid but are still actually solid due to the tiny solid particles/grains. Salt was an example of this that we looked at.
RE:
We continued to explore the idea of Jesus as a saviour. We focused on the Salvation Army and a painting titled ‘Who Cares?’. This explored how some people need saving, do the saving and how others can let others do it rather than helping too. We then recreated this picture using freeze frames.
Art Enrichment Day:
We had a wonderful morning studying the art of Paul Klee. Have a look at what we created below!
