Willow – 2nd – 6th September 2024

This week in Willow Class we will be:

English: In English this week we will be continuing our focus on sentences, starting to look at what makes a complex sentence and how they can be used in our writing.

Maths: In maths this week we are continuing with our topic of place value. We will be focusing on understanding powers of 10, identifying 10, 100, 1000, 10000 and 100000 more or less.

Science – Our topic at the present is Forces. This week we will be planning and carrying out a parachute experiment looking at air resistance.

In our class discussions this week we will be starting to focus on oracy skills.

Have a look below to see what we’ve been up to this week:

In History we are looking at the Maya Civilisation. In this first lesson, we discussed where and when they were from – using atlas’ to locate Mesoamerica and the countries within this region.

In art we are focusing on an artist called Chris Ofili. He used lots of mediums and layers to create his abstract punk art. In this first lesson the class came up with their own abstract ideas that they began adding colour too. Next week we will start layering them with tissue paper, glitter, acetate and paint.

We are looking at Forces in science. Today we looked at friction. I illustrated this with a bicycle wheel and brakes, matches and the book experiment (can they explain this to you)?. We then looked at air resistance. They had great fun trying out the running parachute too – please
