Next week, we are learning....
Literacy– Next week,
we will be continuing to focus on writing sentences using a full stop by
writing ‘I can see’ sentences. We will be reading the story ‘We’re going on a
Lion Hunt’ and learning how to retell the story and begin to create story maps.
Maths– Next
week, we will be focusing on measuring mass and capacity. We will be finding
the balance using scales and comparing objects by mass. We will be measuring
the capacity of different containers and ordering by capacity.
Phonics– Next
week, we will continue Phase 3 Mastery of our phonics programme Unlocking
Letters and Sounds. We will be revisiting the phonemes y,z,zz,qu and common
exception words ‘we’ and ‘be’
Topic/UTW– We will
be learning about places in the world that have hot climates. We will be
looking at a world map and locating the equator. We will learn about Africa as
a country with a hot climate and learning about the animals that live there.
This week, we have been learning....
Maths
We learnt about odd and even numbers this week. We matched items into pairs and talked about how when objects can be shared into twos, they are even numbers. If they have one left over, it is a odd. We used our Numberblock friends to help us find the ‘Odd Blocks’ and ‘Even tops’. We used ten frame and counters to work out which number card went in the even hoop or odd hoop.
Literacy
This week, we have been learning about full stops. We sorted lots of cards into letters, words and sentences and talked about how we know a sentence is a sentence because there is full stops on the end. We challenged the Acorns to build a scrambled sentence to match a picture, focusing on where the full stop needed to be. They did such a great job!
UTW- Chinese New Year
We celebrated Chinese New Year as part of a enrichment morning with Oak and Ash class. We talked about the traditions and meaning of Chinese New Year and read the Zodiac story of the animals. We took part in a variety of activities including food tasting, chopstick challenge, lantern making, number writing, dragon making and lion dancing!
