Next week, we will be learning....
Literacy– Next week,
we will be using our story telling skills to retell the story of ‘We’re Going
on a Lion Hunt’. We will be creating our own story maps for the story and then
innovating these story maps to create our own versions of the story.
Maths– Next
week, we will be focusing on combining two sets of objects to find out how many
altogether. We will also be looking at conceptual subitising for numbers to 8.
Phonics– Next
week, we will continue Phase 3 Mastery of our phonics programme Unlocking
Letters and Sounds. We will be revisiting the phonemes ch, sh, th and ng and
common exception words ‘she’ and ‘he’
Topic/UTW– We will
be continuing our theme of hot climates with a focus on Africa. Later on in the
week, we will also be enjoying a valentines theme and enjoying a Valentines
post office role play. Lastly, we will be investigating floating and sinking in
a UTW lesson this week.
This week, we have been learning....
Maths
We have been measuring mass this week. We used the balance scales to measure different objects and find the balance using compare bears. We then compared the different objects mass by comparing how many bears it took to balance them!
UTW- Hot Climates
We learnt about the equator and looked at our world map to locate countries in the world that have a hot climate. We focused on Africa and learnt about the African savannah. We talked about the different animals that lived there. We then challenged the Acorns to sort the animals on the world map and decide whether they lived in the cold climates or the hot climates of the world.
Literacy
We used our imaginations to travel to the African Savannah and go on Safari. We pretended to dress suitably for a hot climate, jumped into our safari jeep and put on a safari hat and binoculars to see what animals we could see. We visited our African small world tuff tray to see what we could spot. We then challenged the Acorns to write a ‘I can see’ sentence of what they saw on their safari adventure!
