Phonics– Next week, we will be having a Common Exception word week focusing on the first 5 of Phase 3- we, me, be, she and he. We will practise reading, recognising and writing these CEWs.

Topic/UTW– Our theme this week will begin with pancake day to celebrate Shrove Tuesday. We will also learn about Valentines day and what this means. Finally we will be taking part in a enrichment morning with Oak class where we will be learning about Lunar New Year and taking part in a variety of activities linked to this theme.

This week, we have been learning.....

UTW- We're Going on Safari!

This week, we have continued to learn about the African Savannah and learnt about what it would be like to go on a safari. We learnt about the animals we would see. We then put on our safari hats and binoculars and collected our clipboards to go on our own safari! We visited our African Savannah tuff tray and wrote lists of all the animals we could see.

Maths

This week, we have been learning about doubling. We learnt that a double is ‘twice as many’ and understood that to make a double, you have to find the same again. We spotted dominos to help us spot doubles and had a competition with 2 dice where we could see who could roll a double! We then started to make doubles using ladybird spots and double bug legs.

Art

During busy time, the Acorns were invited to paint their own lions after reading the story ‘We’re Going on a Lion Hunt’. We talked about the features of a lion and what to include when painting. We talked about what colours to use too. The Acorns could then choose to paint a lion face on the creative table- it was a popular activity!
