This week, we have been learning....

UTW- Winter

This week, we have been learning about the season Winter. We talked about the weather and temperature at this time of year. We talked about clothing we wear during this season and compared it to what we wear in other seasons. We learnt about what some animals do during Winter such as hibernate or migrate. We then went on a Winter walk around the school grounds to spot signs of Winter. We took our checklists, wrapped up warm and searched the school grounds for ice, frost, frozen cobwebs, icicles and bare trees. We even managed to see lots of squirrels this time!

Maths

This week we have been practising our subitising skills and playing games where we have to recognise number representations quickly by subitising. We love a competitive game in Acorn and really enjoyed this one- we had to roll the dice, subitise and match it to correct numeral. The child with the most cubes on the board wins!!

Literacy

This week, we have been reading the story ‘One Snowy Night’ by Nick Butterworth. We focused on the characters in the story and talked about their feelings throughout the story. We had a go at doing some freeze frame feelings. Mrs M gave us some scenarios from the story and we had to act out what the character was feeling. Here are some kind, shocked and relieved feeling freeze frames!

UTW- Forest Schools

This week was our first ever visit to Forest Schools and boy were we excited!!! We wrapped up super duper warm and headed over to meet Holly, our forest school leader. We played some listening games, shared our forest animals and then went to explore. We swung in the hammock, went pond dipping, drilled holes, discovered some bird bones, went mud sliding and made bird feeders. We finished off with a yummy hot chocolate.
