Willow 22nd – 26th January 2024

This week in Willow Class we will be:

English: This week we are starting a new, three-week, unit based on Michael Morpurgo’s book – The Wreck of the Zanzibar. In the first week we will be looking at character descriptions.

Maths: In maths we are finishing our fractions topic, looking at finding the whole. We will then be starting our new topic on decimals and percentages. In the first two lessons we will be looking at up to two decimal places and equivalent fractions and decimals – tenths.

Science – This week will be our last lesson on Materials – the focus will be on uses of everyday materials (wood, plastic and metal).

Big Question – If you were Prime Minister what one thing would you change?

Have a look below to see what we’ve been up to this week:

Our next lesson on yoga focused on some new stretches.

In computing this week we were giving instructions to the Mars Rover to complete mission, calculating how many days it would take for the rover to complete the mission.

In music this week we have been looking at a South African pop song called Freedom.

In art this week we added the first layer of colour to our batiks – the start of the layering process of colour.

In science this week Willow class were looking at thermal conductors. They planned and carried out an experiment to see which material would be the best thermal conductor to keep some water hot. The had a control beaker, one with fabric, one with tin foil and one with bubble wrap. They used stopwatches and thermometers to track the temperature changes in each beaker.
