Acorn Class 10th-14th June 2024

Next week, we are learning.....

Literacy– Next week, we will be having a drawing club week with a cartoon rather than a book! We will be watching a clip of the Pink Panther and coming up with new characters to join him in his adventures.

Maths– Next week, we will be focusing on recognising and finding odd and even numbers. We will be grouping quantities of objects and recognising if there is one left over, it is an odd number.

Phonics– Next week, we will begin Phase 4 Mastery of our Unlocking Letters and Sounds programme. We will be looking at adjacent consonants at the beginning of words and revisiting common exception words ‘were’ and ‘there’.

Topic/UTW– Our theme this week will focusing on the 4 seasons. We will be looking at the differences between spring and summer and learning what to expect now we are in the summer season.

This week, we have been learning....

Maths- Sharing and Grouping

This week, our maths learning has been focused on sharing and grouping. Mrs M challenged the Acorns to share the sweets between the toys, making sure it was shared equally. Some chose to group the sweets, others chose to do the ‘one for you, one for you’ method.

UTW- Fossils

This week, we have been learning about fossils. We learnt how fossils are formed and what they teach us about dinosaurs. We listened to the story of Mary Anning and the discoveries she made many, many years ago. We then went fossil hunting ourselves and tried to match what we found to our dinosaur fact cards.

Forest Schools

For our final forest school session, we enjoyed clay creating, den building, hammock swinging, tightrope walking, drilling and fire making. We also had a surprising visit from our school’s resident duck and her 8 ducklings who decided to join us for forest schools and have a dip in the pond! So we had an extra mission to build a bridge for a duckling rescue! What a afternoon!
