This week, we have been learning....
Literacy
This week, we discovered a letter with clues to follow around the room. Luckily they were rhyming clues which the Acorns were learning about last week, so we were very, very good at working out the clues! We had lots of fun following the clues which led us to a story sack containing our very own Gingerbread man, story props and the story book. We excitedly read the story, joining in on the parts we knew. As part of drawing club, we drew our own gingerbread men and then created passcodes using the ‘magic phones’ to freeze anyone chasing the Gingerbread Man.
Maths
This week, we have been focusing on the numbers 4 and 5. We decided to put our subitising skills to the test with a subitising game. We mixed up the dot patterns on the paper plates and then quickly revealed them. We challenged the Acorns to subitise and say the number of dots they can see.
UTW
This week we have been learning about villages and our local area. We used Google Earth to visit the village of Lawshall and enjoyed finding the places of interest and some of our own homes. We found the school, the pub, the church, the park and the village hall. We then drew our own maps of the Lawshall. The next day, we challenged the Acorns to create their own dream village. The Acorns loved drawing their own places on the giant road map- we had a helicopter pad, a sweet shop, a swimming pool and a space station!
