Next week, we are learning...

Maths– Next week, we will be focusing on time. We will be learning about the days of the week and putting them in order using vocabulary ‘tomorrow’, ‘today’ and ‘yesterday’. We will also be learning how to measure time with a variety of 1 minute time challenges and finally ordering a familiar activity talking about sequences of time.

Phonics– Next week, we will continue Phase 3 Mastery of our phonics programme Unlocking Letters and Sounds. We will be revisiting the phonemes oo, ar, or, ur and common exception words ‘they’ and ‘all’

Topic/UTW– We will be celebrating Pancake Day this week. We will learn about the meaning of Shrove Tuesday and opening up our very own Pancake Café in Acorn class. We will be writing our own orders and then making pancakes for our friends.

This week, we have been learning...

UTW- Space

We have been learning all about Space this week and focusing on the Solar System. We learnt about the planets and put them in order using our inflatable planets. We learnt facts about each one and talked about the sun and moon too. We then added them to our new Space Station role play area so we can pretend to be astronauts visiting the planets in space! We also enjoyed some space themed provision in our busy time including oil pastel planet drawings, shooting stars finger gym and galaxy addition number sentences.

Forest School

This week we had another forest school session and this time, it was very wet and muddy. That did not stop the Acorns though! We enjoyed rope swinging, mud sliding, shrimp investigating, mud painting and roasting marshmallows on the fire. Yum!

Maths

In one of our maths sessions this week, we learnt about comparing and ordering by height. We used the vocabulary ‘tall’ and ‘short’ to compare objects and put them in order from tallest to shortest. We ordered all the Acorns by height and then we built towers that were taller and shorter than Mrs M’s.
