Next week, we are learning...
Literacy– Next week, we will be focusing on rhyming. We will listening to lots of rhyming stories and spotting and matching rhyming pairs. We will be making and labelling our own rhyming pairs cards.
Maths– Next week, we will be focusing on one less. We will be learning how to find one less by taking one away and using a variety of resources to practise this.
Phonics– Next week, we will continuing Phase 3 of our Phonics scheme ‘Unlocking Letters and Sounds’. Our focus sounds this week will be y,z,zz and qu. We will also be introducing our next common exception words ‘we’ and ‘be’.
Topic/UTW– Our theme this week will focus on Diwali. We will be learning about the festival of lights and listening to the story of Rama and Sita. We will be making our own clay Diya lamps and designing mehndi patterns.
This week, we have been learning....
UTW- Bonfire Night
We talked about the traditions of Bonfire Night and shared stories of firework displays we have visited. We listened to the story of Guy Fawkes and watched a video of a firework display to talk about the colours and shapes we could see. We made our own firework pictures by printing using cardboard tubes, cotton buds and dish scourers. We then added glitter for extra sparkle!!
Maths- 2D Shapes
We have been learning about 2D shapes and we learnt that 2D shapes are flat. We talked about different 2D shapes we know and focused on circles and triangles. We talked about the properties of these shapes and spotted them on a shape hunt around the room. We then challenged the Acorns to make 2D shape pictures using only circles and triangles.
Literacy- Segmenting
We have been focusing on segmenting this week and practising lots of oral segmenting using our phoneme fingers. We played a game with our friend Robbie Robot where we could only talk to him in robot-talk. We then introduced phoneme frames to the Acorns and learnt how to segment and spell using magnetic letters. We have had lots of fun segmenting lots of words and counting the phonemes!
UTW- Remembrance
We learnt about the importance of Remembrance day and the significance of the poppy. We created our own poppy transient art using loose parts and decorated poppy biscuits.
