Acorn Class 9th – 13th June 2025

Next week, we are learning….

Literacy– Next week, we will be using Pink Panther as the inspiration fo out Drawing Club writing sessions! We will be using our imaginations to design a character and an adventure to write sentences about.

Maths– Next week, we will be sharing and grouping, exploring how to share numbers equally and how we can group numbers in different ways. We will be doing this through sharing out food items for the teddy bears to divide them. To learn about group we will explore splitting pencils between different amounts of of pots and seeing if that changes anything – exploring our mathematical reasoning and recording skills.

Phonics– Next week, we will be starting week 1 of Phase 4 Mastery of our phonics programme Unlocking Letters and Sounds. We will be revising adjacent consonants ‘ft’, ‘mp’, ‘st’, ‘nt’, ‘ld’, ‘lf’ and we will be practicing Common Exception words ‘said’ and ‘have’.

Topic/UTW– We will be thinking about seasons again exploring ours understanding of the season of summer and comparing it with the knowledge we already have of other seasons. We will also be continuing to expand our interest in dinosaurs.

This week, we have been learning….

Maths

This week, we have been learning about doubles. The children have been able to use their subitising and counting skills to explore doubles. The class have used concrete objects such as their fingers and numicon to find the doubles. Acorn class have been amazing at knowing that double means two of the exact same number. We moved onto pictorial representations and they have been amazing at recalling some double facts from memory!

Literacy

This week, we have been writing sentences about our characters we designed from reading the story ‘Are Dinosaurs Dead, Dad?’. The characters have been so imaginative and unique. They have done an incredible job of witting their descriptive sentences.

UTW- Dinosaurs

This week, we have enjoyed continuing exploring our new class topic of Dinosaurs! The children have leant all about fossils and have been so eager to expand their leaning further. They were very engaged when leaning about Mary Anning and got incredibly excited leaning that crocodiles and turtles are descendants from real dinosaurs. We have had some real fossils to investigate in the classroom, an excavation site outside, and a task from the natural history museum to put together the skeletons! We also drew our own amazing dinosaurs which we used cutting and split pins with in our AT/DT activity this week to make them have moving parts!
